Currency / Cassette with 3 Vials of Natural Oils / 2024 / Singapore

The sensory experiences we encounter on a daily basis are often taken for granted, but they are what make our lives so rich and varied. The luminous pearl iridescence of a seashell and the tinkling of wind chimes carried on a hot summer breeze find their counterparts in the tranquil stillness of the night, cool ceramic tiles against the skin and the sweetness of ripe peaches. All are reminders of the range of human perception and the power of our senses to alter our worldview. By taking heed of the depth of our sensory lives, we can find appreciation for the beauty of existence.

≪Synthetic Natures: Sample and Hold≫
formAxioms / digital / 2023 / Singapore

As someone said: “In history and in nature decay is the laboratory of life” [KM]. An audio-visual choreography, to be open to contingency, diagramming with sounds and visuals modes of decay and differential integrations, artificial natures,  landscapes to make an angel become, appearing through cyphers, for once to summon, a “generic” man. Making nature through archaeological practices of excavation, pixels decay triggering voltage modulation. Creatively appropriating series of mistakes, looking for moments of audio-visual contingent fusion, making form  by directing hard and soft forking(s). Playing as in life: making sense of moments, distinguishing vibrations that resonate in an additive manner from the ones that create negative torsions. Working through the concept of form by welcoming formlessness (decay). Working through formal protocols of differential synthesis, the Interpolation of: gradients, patterns, decay, noise. Aiming at choreographing imperfect fusion: the recursive struggle of binary inputs —pixels’ selfhood sublimates into emancipated collective forms of meaninglessness; non-dual reason emerges in/through a language that has no domesticity to exploit.

≪VJ Conference: Respiring Soma | Remix≫
≪Loopholes | Remix≫
INTER–MISSION / digital / 2021 / Singapore

A series of performative collaborations conceptualised and visualised in 2020-2021 during the pandemic period with multiple digital and analogue technologies for live medi art, to look into the future of multidisciplinary and alternative media in art production, presentation and discourse. The human body is a virtual vessel (container) capable of being collaborative and performative in today’s technology-driven world. As collaborators, we build layers as sets of repetitions with gestures and interruptions in physical and digital forms, embodied in complex technological media.

≪Saturnism≫ VR movies
Mihai Grecu / digital / 3min. 58sec. / 2024 / France, Romania

Francisco Goya’s painting “Saturn Devouring His Son” is considered one of the most terrifying in the history of art. It is indeed so disturbing one might want to turn away, as it is nearly impossible to look at Saturn’s face distorted in madness, at his mouth open to consume his own child. According to the myth, Saturn devours because of fear to be devoured – or rather overthrown – by his son; the fear of losing power makes Saturn lose control over his mind. The plot of the presented VR experience based on Goya’s painting includes running from and running towards something, suggesting the cyclicity of life, the same that brings night after day, counter-revolution after revolution, children after parents. This experience offers to figuratively dive into fears (of Saturn, of the child, and of the witness) and reach the bottom of them, by putting on a VR helmet resembling Saturn’s mouth, jumping inside the depicted scene, and living it through.
